Just the other day, some way cool wine bottles called out to me. Has this ever happened to you (whether it be the wine label or the bottle)? These eye-candy bottles were from the Francis Ford Coppola Encyclopedia name and inspired this piece penned by me. What do you think? If you are like me, will you still be tempted to judge a wine by its bottle or label?

Nostalgia plays a big part of one's relationship with food. For my husband, a must eat food is the fried chicken at Broaster Kitchen in Montebello (Los Angeles County). Terrific Pacific Cookbook

This weekend I found an amazing deal on an Asian-inspired cookbook. Sitting lonely on the clearance shelf was the Terrific Pacific Cookbook: The Vibrant Foods of Thailand, Bali, Singapore, Australia, Vietnam, and Malaysia. In it are "over 300 aromatic recipes". And I got this lovely book for $1. Yes, one dollar US. How could I not take that book home?

Not only are there excellent, Asian recipes, but this book is also filled with historical and culinary tidbits. I am exciting to begin cooking the recipes and reading the stories!

Here are some recent culinary experiments from the Adventures with a Wok kitchen! A pork stir-fry dish complete with star anise (bao-jao), dried red chilies, toban chili bean sauce, garlic, green onions, soy sauce and sesame oil. And a simple bok choy stir-fry with garlic, rice wine, and canola oil. What are your favourite stir-fries?

Memories of delicious hot pot in Taipei and shabu shabu at Japanese restaurants throughout the States linger in my mind. But my budget this past year has been shrinking, so my days of eating hot pot outside of home are no more. Here is how I've recreated hot pot at my own abode. It's not exactly like any restaurant version, but I've found it to be yummy and a better bet, cost-wise.
